Day 431's sort of finished project

So the upholsterer delivered my chairs today. Here they are sitting outside my cube at the office:

If they look a little different than you expected, well, you'd be correct. They put the fabric on backward. As in, you are seeing the reverse side. The one with all of the stiching from the beautiful embroidery. Yeah.

This is what they should look like. It's actually not too bad ... from a distance. But when you get close it is painfully obvious (at least to me ... and everyone else in the office, for that matter).

This whole project has been one big comedy of errors, so we all had a good laugh when they came in. I'm dropping them off to be fixed this weekend, and I think I'm going to demand a discount, too!

  1. Um, YEAH you'll demand a discount!

They put the fabric on BACKWARDS. I'd start of telling them you want it done for free. After all, you paid for it once. Not your fault they did it wrong.

  2. Wow, not a very common mistake for an upholsterer. Could you give me an idea of how much it cost to do this, just the upholsterers cost not the material. Thanks for any help. MB

  4. Bless your heart - after all that research/considerations on the upholsterer, you still have to get them redone.

  7. Actually, this is a common issue for upholsterers. I can't tell you how many times I've been called in to confirm the up side. Usually it should be marked before it goes to the upholsterers, but sometimes that can't be done - so you always have to double check this. But - why do you expect a discount? Not sure about that. They are correcting it for free with no cost to you, right? So why would you get a discount? just curious.

Thanks for sending me that article! that was so sweet of you to think of me.

And BTW I LOVE that fabric! actually the chairs look good with it backwards! haha!!! seriously - they do!!! not in person, I'm sure.

  8. This happens a lot actually! Isn't that funny! I always pin a ribbon to the "top side" and send a little note along "ribbon indicates which side should face upward/outward" it has seemed to work for me thus far, but I have only sent two things to be upholstered and I am obsessive, lol.
