My dad is taking my sisters and me to
San Diego this weekend on a last little mini-vacation before 2/3 of us are married. Have you been? Or better yet, do you live there? What should we do? Where should we eat? Any suggestions you have for fun little outings or local-favorites will be appreciated! Thank you in advance!
I hope you are staying at the Hotel del Coronado. It's been about 9 years since I was there, but it left such an impression on me. Beautiful hotel, excellent service.
ReplyDeleteI took surfing lessons while I was there, and even though I was terrible at it I still had a blast.
Hey there! I have been many times-- and even as an adult, the San Diego Zoo and Seaworld are awesome! (The Shamu show is a MUST see) There are soo many good mexican restaurants in Old Town San Diego. I highly recommend just finding some hole-in-the-wall place to eat, it will be authentic and memorable.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I hope that helps-- love your blog, love your taste. Have a good trip!
Well that is a fun little surprise trip! Have fun! Take pictures. I have never been.
ReplyDeleteI have never been but hope you have so much fun. Can't wait to hear (or read!) all about it!
ReplyDeleteFun city! Personally, I don't think the zoo is worth it, but I live in a city with an awesome *FREE* zoo, so that could have something to do with it. Definitely check out the gaslamp district. There are tons of cool shops and restaurants there!
ReplyDeleteHey! I really loved the Zoo and the Wild Animal Park when I was there. I also had a great time doing a whale-watching trip. :)
ReplyDeleteIf you want to go snorkeling or just hang out at the beach, go to La Jolla - it's beautiful! Jon and I once were like 10 feet from a beautiful jumping dolphin when we rented a kayak at La Jolla (pronounced Lah Hoya). Very memorable!
I am from California and San Diego is such a fun city! Having been there many times I would say the Gaslamp District and Old Town are my favorite areas, great shopping, sights, and food in historic settings. La Jolla is also beautiful. Sea World is definitely fun, and I would go there over the zoo. If you are not staying at Hotel Coronado, you must go over there! I love going for dinner and just walking around (its beautiful at night). Have fun!
ReplyDeleteMy personal favorites are the Rockin Baja Lobster or Dussinis in Gaslamp... two totally different ends of the dining spectrum, both fabulous, and kitty-corner from one another on 5th Avenue (where the official Gaslamp District arch is).
ReplyDeletedon't know anything about San Diego but I hope you have fun!!!
ReplyDeleteHey Jennifer! I live here in beautiful San Diego. What to do and where to go really depend on where and how long you are staying. If you are staying on Coronado, my favorite restaurant there is the Rhinocerous Cafe and then you could catch "The Glass Menagerie" at the Lamb's Players Playhouse next door. The weather has been GLORIOUS!! Have a wonderful time!
ReplyDeleteJennifer (too!)
If you can, stay at the Hotel del Coronado! It is beautiful! I second the San Diego Zoo. The tour through the wild animal park is awesome. The Gaslamp District is a great place to get a drink and dinner at night. Seaport Village has some great shops and places to grab lunch. Also, I took a San Diego Seal tour that takes you around the city and then on the water. It's a touristy thing to do, but if you've never been to the city it's a good way to see a lot in a short amount of time. At Mole Park there's a 25 ft statue of the famous WWII photo of the nurse and sailor kissing. Hope you have a great time!
ReplyDeleteWell, you should most definitely go there! - to Hotel Del. It is a gorgeous beach! If you're not staying there, I recommend having brunch or dinner outside. I lived in San Diego for two months (not long enough), and another recommendation is Brockton Villa in La Jolla. It's the best view in La Jolla. Jake's in Del Mar has excellent seafood and the ocean waves nearly come up to the back window. Enjoy your time!
ReplyDeleteWe go down to Coronado Island (just over the bridge from downtown San Diego) several times a year. Coronado is a great place with lots of great places to eat and cute little shops. The Del is wondeful and as others have suggested, the place to stay. I suggest a restaurant called Rhinocerous for dinner and another fun place for lunch called Burger Lounge. Can't go wrong with either. Have a great time!
ReplyDeleteThe best mexican restaurant in San Diego, hands down is right across from the Hotel Del... (as the other posts say a must see) in Coronado called Miguel's. A must. And even better yet... it's cheap! :) We take every one of our visitors here for a unique San Diego experience.
