Country Living
I've been noticing dark, sort-of Dutch-looking portraits everywhere lately (like the one over this fireplace). I can't decide if I think they are cool or creepy. A little of both? I've got my eye on one at a local shop. Maybe I'll bring him home this weekend. Maybe.
Happy Weekend!
totally true...now that you say it, I can definitely recall a bit of atrend lately. weren't there a couple above the sofa in one of the bloomingdale windows in the competition the other day? and mrs. limestone has a similar few in her frame gallery wall she just did. good eye, jennifer! i think one would probably look great with your style.
ReplyDeleteI love the picture, I would totally have one in my house if I could get my hand son one.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty indeed! I think they are cool....There are stories there, and that can make a portrait so interesting.
ReplyDeleteAs long as it's not a man "mona lisa" where you feel he's looking at you from any corner of the living room...you're good to go. Ha! Old family portraits are fabulous too...if you can get your hands on one.

The fireplace is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI definitely think they are cool, not creepy. I love that photo you posted, what a serene living room.
ReplyDeleteI was cruising through my favorite blogs (your included:) and noticed the same thing too. I think the 'cool vs creepy' aspect depends on the painting itself. I do love the contrast between the rich dark colors of the painting and the cool crisp colors of the room. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteThis picture is beautiful! So bright, with a clean minimalist look.
ReplyDeleteEasy on the eyes, not so good for life though. I can just imagine what that pretty white couch would look like directly after my black cat sprawled across it. :)
Can't wait to see your Dutch portrait,
-Shannon O.
i always love following your blog, so I just passed a blog award on to you!

I am in the air too but I think I could be convinced!
ReplyDeletehmm cool or creepy? I think it depends on the eyes in the portrait. The eyes can make or break it.
ReplyDeleteDid you get it?!
ReplyDeleteHaha, I have a post about this very same thing going up later this week! How funny! I'll have to be sure to link to you :)
ReplyDeleteBut as for my opinion, I only like the Victorian-esque type ones...and as another commenter suggested, the eyes have a lot to do with the creepy value.
I've always found those a little creepy, especially at night.
ReplyDeleteYou must be onto something saying that AT used portraits in the Big Window Challenge! Personally, I like them, creepy or not!
ReplyDeleteI don't think they're creepy at all -- a little austere, yes, but still beautiful. Love the one you ended up purchasing.
