Day 496's pretty plans

Remember my burning desire for a chest-mirror-lamp combo? Mom to the rescue! She's had this little blue chest stashed in her garage for a couple of months (she rescued it from the same lake house renovation that produced my chair project) and offered to let us take it off her hands. It's in desperate need of a paint job, and my fist instinct was to use up the rest of the mocha brown that we used on the entertainment center, add these ring pulls and call it a day.

But after a week, we both kind of like the blue, and it compliments the chair fabric (Paisley Linen by Suzanne Rheinstein) nicely. Not to mention, half of the chests I liked in the above-mentioned post were blue. And now to choose a blue!

Chinese Blue by Farrow & Ball is the front-runner in this highly-contested race.

And this mirror is the only thing on my Christmas wish list. Pretty please, Santa!

I read the start of the entry where you wanted to change the color and thought 'wtf'? Why not just keep the current paint job on it? The color you chose looks pretty close, and I think the distressed look works for it. Put some cool labels on the front saying what is in each drawer, and I think it's a cool vintage piece.

corey -- the current color totally works, but it needs to be repainted, it's pretty grimey and some fresh paint would definitely improve the musty smell.

labels would be so cool. great idea!

I can vouch for the repainting needs. If it wasn't so much of an "I've been in a basement for a long time and I'm super dirty to the point I can't be cleaned" distress and more of an "I'm a cool vintage piece with some imperfections" distress we probably wouldn't paint it. Also, the labels idea is awesome. Were you thinking something like this? http://bumblebeeartsupply.com/products/images/misc/misc17481.jpg
Also, I think bar pulls would be cool, but I like bar pulls on everything.

Yes, so happy you decided on blue instead of brown. What a great piece! I like the wood pulls -but I guess you'll have to see when it's all painted up.

I LOVE the blue-I too have a blue server in my dining room that I snathed up on a trip to Amelia Island, and it's my favorite piece in my house!
PS I live about 5 miles from Kimball Hall, in nearby Alpharetta-small world in the south :)

How exciting! I love the chest and the blue; great choice! I look forward to seeing the completed piece and which mirror you get!

Hey Wes, the labels on the bottom of your link were what I was envisioning. It will be tough to get the scale of the labels and pulls to match. And while I love me some bar pulls (check on the kitchen), not sure how you can make them work with the label holders. Will be interested to see if you can pull it off though. :-)

I love the color and I think I will have to side with Wes on this one; bar pulls would be great! Maybe an oil rubbed bronze bar pull.
I'm glad you found that chest, it looks fantastic!
