Day 921: back to normal
I was a little sad to take our Christmas decorations down, but I suppose it's nice to have the house back to normal. I picked up these pretty tulips for a birthday party for my mom (she and my dad and my dad's mom are all New Year's babies) and they are sitting one of the pewter julep cups my father-in-law gave me for Christmas. Can you tell he reads the blog?! Thanks, Ed!
I think I cooked breakfast almost every morning we were home. It's a nice treat, but not-so-great for the waistline.
I finally packed everything up on the second. I'll miss my ornaments while they're tucked safely away.
These are some of my favorite Christmas things.
This corner of the dining room looks kind of bare now, and I miss having this chair in the living room. But, it is nice to get back to normal I suppose. Which reminds me, I'd better get ready for work!

The few days after Christmas decorations are put away are always the saddest - I like to prolong my taking down as long as possible!
I just did this yesterday. There's something sad about packing it all up. It's not as fun as unpacking it and decorating.

Hi Jennifer! I've been reading your blog for awhile and just wanted to say hi. I can definitely sympathize with you - it was hard packing away things for another year but also kind of nice to get back to a routine. Your tulips have me excited for spring!
Blog stalker here! Where oh where did you get those lovely gold bells?
Some Christmas stuff is still up and I'm looking forward to taking it all down... but alas, my husband needs to take the bins down from the attic. I too need to get back to normal! It's always nice, yet sad... another 11 months until my house is filled with Christmas joy!
What a great gift from you FIL. And the tulips are beautiful.
My house looks bare--- but I'm glad it's back to normal!
I still have my decorations up. I'm really not wanting to take them down because my living room will feel so empty.... I'm really loving my tree this year (and am already excited for next year's tree).
But this weekend, I will. Maybe. :)
Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one who drags it out a little. All of the houses right around us took everything down the day after Christmas! And actually, the garland around my front door is still up -- I haven't been turning on the lights and I took the wreath down, but it's too dang cold to stand out there and take the lights off!
so I really do want to see your home in person. Like how I just invited myself over?
Jennifer Leigh -- those bells came from a local shop called Leaf 'n' Petal. But Pottery Barn had some for the holidays. All I see online are the napkin rings, but they are on sale: http://www.potterybarn.com/products/gold-bell-napkin-ring/?pkey=x|4|1||10|bells||0&cm_src=SCH
Its is such a wonderful feeling to have all the x-mas decor packed up! xx
I LOVE those purple tulips!
I don't know either of you, but my soon-to-be mother-in-law stumbled upon your blog and sent me the link. I'm getting married in May and I guess my MIL thought I might be interested in this blog... and she was right! It's precious and I've been perusing it for over an hour now. Expect me as a regular visitor :)
We have a big breakfast every, single morning. No kidding! I can't live without it!

Your father-in-law sounds like the nicest man!! What an awesome Christmas present to get. The julep cup is beautiful with the tulips!
Wow, 3 New Years babies! I LOVE that chair in your dining room. The corner of our living room is feeling sooooo empty right now, I miss the tree.
Jennifer! Your pictures are SO so so so pretty. :)
I have "take down tree and garland" on my to do list this week. It is sad but you're right, it's also nice to get back to normal. AND love the turned legs on your dining room table!!! xoTrina
i was ready to get my things down too, but everything looks so drab now.
i have those same plates!
I do hate putting all of the Christmas decorations away! I love the corner of the dining room, loving the chair and the blue hutch.
Taking down the decorations is alway sad. It is even more sad after you take it all down and realize you didn't take a picture of any of it; like it did! :(
I love the deep purple color of the tulips.
I'm tackling the Christmas decorations and house cleaning this Saturday (for me, Christmas didn't officially end until yesterday so I had to leave them up). I'm both looking forward to and dreading it... it'll be nice to have the house "back" but I'll miss the festiveness and I'm not looking forward to cleaning up all those pine needles!
i feel the same way! taking ours down was a refreshing move but it seemed empty. empty and ready to be filled with memories ... just like the new year!
thanks, too, for your tips with photography!!
gosh i really do love the chair with the blue dresser in the DR!! love your pic always!!
xoxo
